What it looks like?

What is it?

Raw cacao nibs are basically the puriest form of chocolate.  They are cacao beans that have been peeled and crushed to make a crunchy flavorful chocolate treat.  It’s similar to an unsweetened chocolate chip.

Health benefits?

Raw cacao nibs are loaded with nutrients such as:

  • Magnesium – builds strong bones.  Cacao contains more magnesium than any other food!
  • Sulfur
  • MAO Inhibitors – Allows more serotonin and other neurotransmitters to circulate in the brain.
  • Antioxidants
  • Phenylethylamine – Thought to help increase focus and alertness.

How to use it?

Raw cacao nib can be eaten straight or grind it up and sprinkle on foods.  Listed below are a couple ways raw cacao nibs can be used:

  • Grind with coffee beans
  • Add to cereal or oatmeal
  • Add to trail mixes
  • Mix in smoothies
  • Sprinkle on ice cream
  • Mix with yogurt

Make sure to store them in a cool place away from moisture.

VC&C thoughts:

I always see these little guys in the grocery store but have never actually brought them home with me.  Not sure why but most likely has something to do with the fact that I had no idea what to do with them.

I like that these little gems seem to have some great benefits for both the body and the mind.  Lord knows I could use some help in both of those areas!
