A Sad Day …

I’m not sure how many of you are aware of the school shooting that took place yesterday at Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska.

Early Wednesday morning the Assistant Principle informed a student that he was suspended for 19 days for driving his vehicle on the school football field and track.  The student was escorted out of the school but returned during lunch and shot (using his Detective fathers gun) the Assistant Principle and Principle.

The Assistant Principle has since passed and the Principle is still in the hospital.

This hit way to close to home.  Millard South is where I went to school and it is now where my niece and nephew go to school.  I can’t even put into words how scared I was for their safety when I first heard about the shooting.  Thank god all the kids are okay.  However, just because all the students are physically okay doesn’t mean they won’t be emotionally affected by what has happened.

This is a sad and scary time.  How awful is it that our kids can’t even feel safe going to school.  What is it we have to do to stop this from happening?

I never once had to feel scared about these types of things happening when I went to school.  My only concern was whether or not I would pass a class.

It’s hard being a kid today.

Please keep the students, faculty and families of those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.  And give the people in your life an extra hug tonight.
