This year my husband and I spent Christmas day at home, just us and the dogs. I wanted to have some Christmas feel so I decided, for the first time ever, that I would try to make homemade sugar cookies. I made the dough in the middle of last week and let it chill in the fridge for a couple days.
On Christmas eve I started the baking process. I got the dough out of the fridge and put it on a floured surface so I could roll it out:
I did hit one small road block. We had no rolling pin in the house so I had to improvise with a wine bottle;) Not a bad bottle either.
Once the dough was rolled out I started cutting the cookies into fun holiday shapes. Snowmen, stars, trees and ornaments:
Put them on a cookie sheet and into the oven they went to bake:
After about 15 minutes we had perfectly done sugar cookies just begging to be frosted! The house smelled wonderful too!
The cookies cooled the night of Christmas eve and once the presents were opened on Christmas I went to making the frosting.
We had some white frosting:

My husband and I had a good time frosting the cookies. We both admitted that we weren’t the best frosters but surely we will develop this skill over the years to come.

We really did have a good time frosting cookies while drinking our morning coffee. A morning full of laughs and memories, what more could I ask for!
I also must add that these cookies were VERY good. I ate way to many of them. Next time I’m going to try some substitutions to make them healthier.
