What is it Wednesday? – Goji Berries
What it looks like?
What is it?
Goji berries are shriveled red berries that are usually found dried. They actually look like red raisins.
Health benefits?
Goji berries have been used for years and it’s no surprise since the claims are pretty great. Here are a few of those claims:
- improve circulation
- improve sexual function and fertility
- protect the liver
- boost immune function
- help eyesight
They are also rich in antioxidants!
How to use it?
There are many ways to use Goji Berries:
- Eat them raw or mixed in with trail mix
- Available in juice form
- Include in smoothies – soak dried berries in water for about 10 minutes. Once plump add them to your smoothie.
- Just like raisins, you can add them to cereal or muffins.
VC&C thoughts:
I’ve used goji berries in the past. I’ve put them on my yogurt and mixed them in my hot oatmeal and overnight oats.
I really don’t think they add any flavor to my food. They are dried so they did add a nice chew to my oats.
Next time I have these in the house I will try soaking them and see if that adds more flavor. I’m also going to try them out in smoothies. I like that idea.

My mom and even my grandmother love goji berries and can’t stop raving about their benefits. ..hehe. It’s supposed to be very good for your skin too.

I wasn’t a huge fan of goji berries…I’m not going to lose sleep over that though! 🙂

Yeah, I didn’t think they had much flavor but it might be how I used them.
